I had been keen on this programme for some time, because of University College Dublin’s (UCD) established reputation. It is also a unique programme with its focus on Management, unlike conventional MBAs.

The module, Organisational Behaviour (now known as Leadership and Organisational Behaviour), has been incredibly fascinating with its insights into how companies and their people behave. The theories covered and the knowledge gained here are extremely applicable to my current work.

The concepts taught in Organisational Behaviour allow you to better understand the dynamics at play in your team and have a better grasp of team building and staff motivation. This helps significantly when you need to quickly build a cohesive unit to work on a project, and ensure the team achieves its objectives.

I would absolutely recommend UCD to prospective students. My Master’s programme offers a good mix of rigour and flexibility, the modules taught have been very thought-provoking, and our instructors have been very helpful and encouraging.

I am currently pursuing my programme while working and amid my wedding preparations. Indeed, the programme’s flexibility is beneficial for those employed in full-time jobs, to effectively manage their various commitments.

As an educator, certain certifications are essential to access more in-depth training programmes. I enrolled in this Degree programme because of its 16-month duration, the reasonable commitment expected of students, its cost efficiency, and a strong recommendation from extended family.

The structure and flow of the modules in the programme were well thought out—each one building upon the last, starting with a strong foundation and developing further knowledge with every step. All the lecturers had their unique strengths and were highly commendable.

What stood out most was the ability to integrate my studies with my work. Using my company as a case study across various modules brought education to life. My main motivation for enrolling in this programme was personal growth and self-improvement. I took a leap of faith to restart formal learning after more than 24 years away from tertiary education. Over the years, I have completed numerous professional certifications relevant to my role, but a comment from someone—that I could not move up the ladder without a Degree—lit a fire in me. I wanted to prove that regardless of age, I have what it takes to succeed. Attaining the Degree was just the cherry on top.

What I enjoyed most were the Business Analytics and Managing People at Work modules, which are highly relevant to my role as a tech team manager leading local and regional teams. Midway through the programme, I made the bold decision to leave the company I had served for 20 years to take on a bigger role—one that stretched my capabilities even further.

When I began my Management Degree, I was working in the Finance industry and often encountered terms and theories during meetings that I did not fully grasp. After completing my Kaplan Diploma, I chose to pursue my academic progression with University College Dublin (UCD) as it is a Top 1% University* with well-known alumni and faculty members. The modules were relevant, with case studies that are applicable to real working situations.

My career started after having won the “Best Intern” award at the Kaplan Kickstart Challenge in 2019. I was offered a full-time employment by the company I interned with. This role was a pleasant introduction for me to the working world. After 4 years in the Information Technology (IT) industry, my Degree and the experiences I have gained enabled my progression from an executive to my current role as a Business Development Manager.

The module on global business has been useful for my career in IT Sales where it is important to come up with innovative and versatile solutions, and it made me more aware of different work approaches towards a common goal. The experienced lecturers with rich industry experience and outstanding teaching abilities, along with the programme’s alignment with my career goals, further reinforced my choice.

The education emphasised practical learning, with lecturers encouraging us to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios, helping me adapt to the learning environment. Consequently, I made the decision to further my studies, a plan that had been postponed for several years. In addition to my dream to work in a bank, I also recognise that the Finance industry is an essential and relatively stable field that promotes employee welfare. Hence, I chose to major in Business Studies, more specifically, in Finance.

In pursuit of expanding my knowledge, broadening my perspectives on business management, and understanding negotiations and management theories, I decided to take up a Business Degree from University College Dublin (UCD) at Kaplan. Apart from the accreditations UCD has for its Business Degrees, the modules offered were also relevant to the rapidly evolving technology industry in its applications and case studies.

The Bachelor of Business Studies (Honours) (Management) (Top-up) Degree programme has enabled me to develop proficient negotiation skills and tactics, and understand the business operations of different organisations. I was able to excel in my role as an Account Executive with the help of this Degree programme. Despite being a newcomer in my industry, I was able to garner admiration from numerous merchants due to my extensive knowledge.

Additionally, the lecturers at Kaplan were also friendly and inspiring. While some concepts and theory models were difficult to grasp, the lecturers made them easier for me to understand.

During my time at Kaplan, I received tremendous help from the local lecturers. Not only were they both supportive and approachable, they also provided me with detailed tips to help me understand concepts. The programme management team at Kaplan are also attentive and responsible.
